Sites for my school magazine cover

Site 1- Outside the Sixth Form Block, this site would be suitable for my magazine if my target audience was the Sixth Form as, its the main area the sixth formers socialise and study in and would make my magazine stand out to the older students. I would position my model for my magazine on the steps holding books or folders for my main picture, because after research into school magazines these type of shots are quite common conventions of school magazines.

Site 2- In the main corridor. I like this site because it shows off the main features in the building such as the arches in the ceiling and the lockers. This would be a suitable site for the front cover of my magazine as its clear that its a school building and will fit with the target audience. It also fits with its purpose as a school corridor would be easily recognizable as a school magazine.

Site 3-  I like this site the most and will use it as my photo for my magazine cover as its suitable for a smart appeal to the magazine and it shows off the victorian look of the school. It fits with my target audience and it's the smartest/ most attractive out of all three sites and will represent the school nicest.

Questionairre Analysis

After making a number of pie charts to assess the answers to my Questionairre, I have come to a conclusion on each question and decided how I can include the readers ideas and make them feel I am engaging them in my magazine.
An equal amount of people thought the best name for my magazine should be either B Weekly or BW News, however, when I mocked it up for my Masthead i felt that it didnt give off the right representation of my style of magazine. I also feel that these names were quite a popular choice with other people in my class, so therefore after talking to different people and what they thought is better, I am going to choose The Beaverwood Sixth as my magazine name. I think this name is more original, it targets a certain audience, it fits with the sixth form audience I am aiming my magazine at and it's also more creative than the other two choices. For my site, I am choosing to shoot my picture for my front cover outside the Main Reception as that was the majority of the answers and I think that site captures the beauty of the schools victorian building. The theme for my magazine is going to be Christmas which is appropriate at the moment as its the next big holiday coming up and I can decorate my magazine in a way that will attract the reader. I am going to include a number of articles in my magazine, the most popular were: Coursework deadlines, Horoscopes, Subject information and Exam Tips. Finally, i found that the most of my audience will be willing to pay for a school magazine is 50p.
All this feedback will help me when creating my magazine as I can include the popular choices which will engage my reader and make my magazine more suitable.

Magazine Analysis

What I like about this magazine is they have chosen a purple colour theme and used it consistently on the front cover. It is clear this magazine is targeting the Sixth Form as the students on the front are smartly dressed and are clearly in the upper school. At the top of the front cover it says 'Win £15 worth of iTunes vouchers in this weeks competition!' this is interacting with the reader and will make them want to buy it. Also 'SCHOOL FOOD: tell us what you think?' shows another way of interacting with the reader and suggests they may take the readers point of view into consideration and use it to improve the school meals. They have used a logo at the bottom of the page and there is an upcoming events article which will entise the reader.

Magazine Analysis

What I like about this magazine cover is it's article ideas on the front. 'First-day jitters' will help with the lower school children and 'Power eating to keep kids alert, energized' would address all school years. The colours are bold and bright which could connote you should be ready and alert at school to do your best. Also 'QUIZ Are you smarter than your child?' is showing is interaction with the audience to get them interested in the magazine. The school girl on the front is carrying books and a backpack which shows she is ready for school. This magazine cover will help me when creating my magazine as it has given me some ideas for articles and layout.

When considering themes, there are many I could use, some of which include: Summer, Christmas, Easter, Halloween.
For example if I chose the theme Christmas, I could take the photo with the student wearing a coat, scarf, gloves and then I could use images on the magazine cover to represent christmas, snowflakes, tinsel, snowman etc. The main colours I would use would be red and green, which would be significant to the theme. If I chose a Summer theme, the students would not be wearing there jumpers and my colour scheme could be yellow and bright colours. I will decide my theme according to my publication date and which one would suit best.

In media today, we looked around the school at possible sites that would be suitable locations for our picture for the front cover of our school magazine.
I liked the site in the main block corridor, because it showed the old fashioned achitecture in our building with the arches in the ceilings and it showed the lockers with the gold and blue on which look like main features in a school. Another site I liked was the front of the sixth form block because it looks modern and clean and is very recognisable as a school building. The front of the school by the reception would be a good location to use, as our school is an old victorian building and the big blue doors and the plants either side of the steps would make our school look really posh.

I am going to take lots of photos at different sites to experiment and see which one looks the best when making my front cover. Also today we discussed the different props and people we could use in our photos and about considering a theme for our front cover and how to use significant colours and pictures to do this.

Magazine Analysis

I like this magazine cover because it looks like students have made it which would fit with the school theme and also it interacts with the students.
It suits its purpose and the bright colours and range of fonts make it eye catching. The conventions on this magazine cover will help me think of ideas when creating my school magazine.
What I don't like about this magazine cover is its layout, this is something I will focus on to create a proffesional appeal when making my magazine.

In media today I learnt that for my first AS Media project I will be creating a school magazine, where I will be creating the front cover, contents page and original pages. Then my next task will be to create the front cover, contents page and double spread for a music magazine.
I have never done this before so I will be learning new techniques and as I have never read a school magazine before I will need to do some research into what these are like, and the main features they include. I enjoy listening to music and already have some ideas for my magazine, I am looking forward to this task.
